Enfield black organisations have come together to help families rebuild their homes, restore their lives, and bring hope.
Enfield Caribbean Association (ECA) is collaborating with Enfield Black Heritage Hub, AFIWI Book Club, and partners to support our brothers and sisters suffering in Jamaica following the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, a category 5 storm, which is the strongest storm ever to hit Jamaica’s shores. The hurricane has caused damage to homes and key infrastructure. PM Andrew Holness said that hurricane Melissa has caused damage equivalent to nearly one third of the country’s GDP.
Thousands of people have been affected, with families displaced, homes destroyed and livelihoods shattered. Sadly at least 32 people have been confirmed dead in Jamaica.
The hurricane has caused huge damage to crops, affecting food stores. In order to rebuild infrastructure, it is going to cost the island dearly. Buildings, including homes and commercial buildings, infrastructure, such as bridges and roads, will need to be rebuilt.
Enfield black organisations have come together to organise support for those that need it.
We have been informed that monetary donations are urgently required.
We have set up a donation site on our website where you can make your donations. The money will be used by the Jamaican Government organisations to buy the resources required to support those who most need it. It will also go towards rebuilding infrastructure.
All monies will be transferred to the Barclays Bank account of from the Jamaica Office of Disaster, Preparedness and Emergency Management of the Government of Jamaica Website https://www.supportjamaica.gov.jm/
We aim to reach a target of £3000. All donors will receive confirmation of their contribution and we will keep you informed of donations on our website.
We will keep in contact with the Jamaica Office of Disaster, Preparedness and Emergency Management of the Government of Jamaica in order to have up to date information on how the money is being used.
