Enfield Caribbean Association (ECA) was invited by the Mayor of Enfield to lay wreaths at the Edmonton Green Cenotaph and the Enfield War Memorial in Enfield Chase on Remembrance Sunday. ECA then participated in the Enfield Remembrance parades in Edmonton in the morning and Enfield Town later in the afternoon.
A Service of Remembrance was held – during which wreaths were laid, led by the Mayor, Ms Margaret Greer, the MP for Edmonton, Ms Kate Osamor and the leader of Enfield Council, Ergin Erbil. Lieutenant for Enfield, led the parade followed by the cadets and scouts and other dignitaries and individuals. The afternoon’s remembrance commemoration event was joined by Feryal Clark, MP for Enfield North, Bambos Charalambous, MP for Southgate and Wood Green and Perry Scott, CEO at Enfield Council.
Edmonton fell quiet for the traditional two-minute silence at 11am.
ECA Chair Oveta McInnis and deputy Chair Roy Edwards laid the wreath for the fallen Caribbean soldiers who answered the call to support the war effort in the first and second world war.
Crowds gathered along the Hertford Road and Edmonton Green Shopping centre with children from Scout groups handing out orders of service. Crowds later gathered through Enfield Chase to Enfield Town following the parade to Enfield Civic Centre.
“I was honoured to be asked to lay a wreath for fallen Caribbean soldiers of the first and second world war. It is incredibly important to recognise the contributions of all people, during this significant moment in British history,” said Oveta McInnis, ECA Chair.
