Black Equity Organisation launches Windrush Support Directory

The Black Equity Organisation BEO has launched what it describes as the first ever Windrush support directory to resolve a critical shortage of unified, reliable information and to assist victims of the Windrush scandal who are struggling to navigate the government’s highly complex compensation and status schemes.

The Windrush Status Scheme and Windrush Compensation Scheme were set up to allow those harmed by the Windrush Scandal to seek redress. Unfortunately, the schemes are not easy to navigate, especially for those who have been traumatised by the scandal. Thankfully, there are a number of individuals, community organisations, Law Centres, University Legal Clinics and law firms that are spread across the country who provide advice, support, or representation to help claimants with their Windrush applications.

However,Campaigners and victims have long described the official Windrush Compensation and Status Schemes as incredibly difficult to access, confusing, and stressful. Furthermore, there was no single, central resource. Claimants often spent hours sifting through disconnected online guidance while trying to build their cases.

Many individuals seeking redress experienced severe trauma, wrongful detention, or lost livelihoods due to the scandal. Navigating dense bureaucratic systems without aid worsened this emotional distress

Because of systemic delays and low initial payouts by the Home Office, victims desperately required expert advocates to challenge unfair awards

BEO has developed an interactive map that will assist those in seeking the help they need when making an initial Windrush Scheme application, challenging a compensation award at Tier 1 or Tier 2, or making a complaint to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, as there was no central place for those who want to easily access the valuable support.

Users can use the map by typing in their postcode, selecting which service required, and the distance you are willing to travel. Many organisations offer virtual sessions which will appear in the search results.

BEO is requesting that If any organisation who provides support and have not included in the interactive map, please let them know.
