Enfield Mayor attends ECA Luncheon Club Christmas Event

The Mayor of Enfield, Ms Margaret Greer, was the guest of honour at the ECA Luncheon Club’s annual Christmas lunch held at Green Towers on Friday, 19 December. Nearly 50 luncheon club members and guests attended, enjoying an afternoon that featured engaging entertainment alongside a three-course Caribbean Christmas meal.

The event started with a group exercise session led by Jackie Dyer whose weekly classes at ECA’s Luncheon Club. At the Christmas luncheon, participants joined in exercising and moving to reggae, soca, and some traditional Christmas music.

Following the meal, Jazanne Arts delivered a festive performance, with Esme and Elsie presenting songs and stories reflecting the season and celebrating its traditions.

Mayor Greer, notable as Enfield’s first mayor of Caribbean heritage, acknowledged the community’s enduring resilience. She expressed sincere appreciation to the Windrush generation elders, recognising their contributions and perseverance in the face of adversity: “People who arrived on these shores in the UK made significant sacrifices and demonstrated extraordinary dedication. Despite challenges, they not only survived but also thrived.”

ECA Chair Oveta McInnis commented, “It was an excellent afternoon filled with laughter, meaningful conversations, and camaraderie. Guests expressed their gratitude upon departure, and the event fostered a palpable sense of seasonal goodwill. I extend my thanks to our volunteers for their outstanding efforts in welcoming and supporting both elders and guests, ensuring everyone had a memorable experience.”
