Brixton’s first Black People’s Assembly – 16 February, 2026

February 16 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Brixton’s Black People’s assembly launches to confront cost-of-living crisis, racism and democratic failure

Operation Black Vote (OBV), in collaboration with The Humanity Project, is bringing forward the first Black People’s Assembly in Brixton – a community-led, participatory gathering designed to respond to the cost-of-living crisis through Black lived experience, community organising, cultural expression and collective decision-making. The project aims to strengthen Black community power, mutual aid, and collaboration across sectors.

The Assembly will also issue a three-level challenge to the council, the voluntary sector and the community itself, urging each to take responsibility for structural change, improved coordination and sustainable mutual aid.

The outcomes of the Assembly will feed into ongoing working groups, borough-wide engagement and the development of a repeatable assembly model that can be adopted in other areas.
