We’re doing our Black History Month celebration slightly different this year. We are celebrating Black History Month through film, discussion and walking.
We are offering a double bill night of films Summer of Soul and Blood Ah Go Run at Dugdale Arts Centre. A lively panel discussion will follow the film screenings.
Summer of Soul
Summer of Soul (…or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) is a 2021 American documentary film about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. Directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, the film had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award in the documentary categories.
Blood Ah Go Run
This ground breaking documentary by Menelik Shabazz (Burning an Illusion) was made in the aftermath of the New Cross Fire in January 1981, in which thirteen young black people were killed at 439 New Cross Road, London.
