Mrs May Yapp Orbituary

Mrs May Yapp a member of ECA, sadly passed away in November 2024 and was laid to rest on Friday December 13th. Mrs Yapp was a popular member of the ECA luncheon club, as she was a very pleasant lady. She started attending the Luncheon club in 2021 after lockdown. She really enjoyed the exercise session as she loved dancing. Due to ill health she stopped attending in July 2022. Mrs Yapp contributed to our book: Windrush Voices published in 2022. Her story was entitled ‘A Life of Self Improvement’

Born in the Blue Mountains in Jamaica, she emigrated to New York in the USA in 1954, but America was not for her and she came to England in 1955. She was a very determined lady who took opportunities to better herself. She studied typing and shorthand and eventually landed an admin post with BT, known as the National Telephone Company at the time, where she worked until her retirement.

She had a long, happy marriage and leaves behind her husband, her daughter, three grandchildren and a great granddaughter. May she rest in peace.

Her daughter has kindly set up a Just Giving Page for donations to ECA as a thank you for the joy that ECA brought to her mother.
